Andres Serrano

Andres Serrano is an American photographer and artist, born in 1950, known for transgressive and provocative imagery, most famously the 1987 work Piss Christ. Reporting on the Epstein files indicates that he first crossed paths with Jeffrey Epstein in 1995, when Epstein acquired a 16th-century Madonna statue that Serrano had wanted, and that the two had sporadic contact over the following decades.

According to Reuters (republished by Yahoo News), Serrano photographed Epstein approximately four months before Epstein’s death in August 2019, in exchange for the Madonna statue. Serrano described having “a very superficial acquaintance” with Epstein, and the resulting portrait was later shown in his “Infamous” exhibition at the Fotografiska museum in New York. Reuters quoted Serrano as saying, “I’m not defending Jeffrey Epstein by any means. I’m just saying that if you met him and you didn’t know who Jeffrey Epstein was, you’d think he was a regular guy.”

Hyperallergic reported that the trove of Epstein-related documents released by the U.S. House Oversight Committee in November 2025 included an October 10, 2016 email in which Serrano discussed his voting intentions with Epstein, writing that he had been “prepared to vote against Trump for all the right reasons” but might give him a “sympathy vote.” Hyperallergic noted that Serrano did not provide comment to the publication through his publicist or direct contact attempts.

Is Andres Serrano in the Epstein files?

Yes. According to Hyperallergic, the Epstein files released by the U.S. House Oversight Committee in November 2025 included an October 10, 2016 email exchange between Serrano and Jeffrey Epstein. Separately, as reported by Reuters, Serrano photographed Epstein in 2019, roughly four months before Epstein’s death, in connection with a long-running arrangement involving a Madonna statue. Being named in the files or having corresponded with Epstein is not, by itself, evidence of any crime or wrongdoing.
