Andrew Farkas

Andrew Farkas is an American real-estate investor. He founded Insignia Financial Group in 1990 and took it public in 1993, and his primary investment vehicle is the merchant bank Island Capital Group; that company operated Island Global Yachting (IGY), which developed and managed marinas. In 2010 he acquired Centerline Holding Company, a commercial real-estate mortgage servicer.

Farkas is named in connection with Jeffrey Epstein primarily through a marina partnership and a long email correspondence. Reporting on the Epstein files indicates that Farkas co-owned a marina with Epstein in St. Thomas, that documents showed the two exchanged crude emails about women in 2010, and that Farkas later told Epstein he considered him one of his best friends. Epstein owned 50 percent of the American Yacht Harbor at Red Hook, with the other half owned by Farkas, and in nearly 2,000 emails seen in the Epstein files the two expressed admiration for each other. According to The San Juan Daily Star, Farkas purchased the American Yacht Harbor in St. Thomas in 2007 and a few months later offered Epstein a deal to split ownership, with Epstein’s stake remaining largely unknown until it emerged in a 2018 deposition; the report says the men had regular phone calls and met in person, and that the marina sat a few miles north of Epstein’s private island.

GV Wire, republishing reporting on the released files, states that the two exchanged nearly 2,000 emails over more than a decade and quotes a December 31, 2010 message in which Farkas wrote, “You are one of the blessings in my life and I cherish our friendship.” That report says Farkas took trips to Epstein’s island, and that a July 2006 email had Farkas telling Epstein, “We are now in contract to buy American Yacht Harbor, where you keep your tenders.” As for his response, The San Juan Daily Star reports that, through a spokesperson, Farkas said the relationship was “entirely a business one,” adding, “He regrets their association and condemns Epstein’s crimes.” GV Wire reports he issued statements saying, “I deeply regret ever associating with Jeffrey Epstein,” and, “At no time have I conducted myself inappropriately.”

Yes, in a documented business context.
