Gary King

Gary Kenneth King is a New Mexico lawyer and Democratic politician who served as the 30th Attorney General of New Mexico from January 1, 2007, to January 1, 2015, and was the Democratic nominee for governor in the 2014 election.

Reporting on the Epstein files indicates that King’s father, former Governor Bruce King, sold Zorro Ranch to Epstein in 1993, and that King “nurtured a relationship with Epstein through private dinners and visits to Epstein’s New Mexico ranch.” Epstein made financial contributions to King’s political campaigns from the early 1990s through at least 2014, “sometimes funneling money through companies to avoid press coverage.” According to reporting by KOB, King received at least $15,000 toward his 2014 gubernatorial campaign through two checks from Epstein-owned companies and one personal check from Epstein, and a June 2014 email referenced a promised $50,000 personal contribution. KOB reports King had previously accepted donations during his 2006 attorney general campaign, which he said he returned after allegations against Epstein surfaced in 2009.

The New Mexico Political Report reported that records show King and his running mate Deb Haaland used a private jet arranged by Epstein to travel from Santa Fe to Washington, D.C., on September 8, 2014, and that the campaign announced one day later that it would return Epstein-linked donations. According to KOB, King initially said of the flight, “The campaign leased a plane that we needed, and we paid fair market value for it. I found out two days ago that it was a plane that belonged to Jeffrey,” and said of donations, “I talked to him once then and told him that I wouldn’t accept campaign contributions from him anymore.” KOB reported that the outlet sought further comment on newly uncovered documents but had not received a response by publication.
