Mehmet Oz is a cardiothoracic surgeon and former television physician who hosted “The Dr. Oz Show” from 2009 to 2022. In April 2025 he became the 17th Administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the agency within the Department of Health and Human Services that oversees the federal Medicare and Medicaid programs.
Oz’s name appears in records released as part of the Jeffrey Epstein files. CBS News reported that a transaction record shows that in 2004 Epstein paid for travel for Oz, with $1,592 billed to Shoppers Travel, Inc. According to CBS News, Epstein was also invited to an event in 2014 at which Oz was a guest speaker, but Epstein wrote in an email that he was unavailable to attend. Newsweek reported that this invitation came from physician Dean Ornish, who invited Epstein by email to an event with Oz at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, and that Epstein said he could not attend.
Newsweek further reported that on February 1, 2016, Oz and his wife, Lisa Oz, sent Epstein an email with the subject line “Mehmet & Lisa Oz’s Valentine’s Celebration,” which contained a link to what appeared to be a card sent by the e-card service Paperless Post. CBS News reported that Oz also sent Epstein an email in 2016, but that the message is redacted. CBS News noted that CMS did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
