Princess Sofia of Sweden, Duchess of Värmland, was born Sofia Kristina Hellqvist on December 6, 1984. She worked as a model and reality-television personality and later studied in New York before marrying Prince Carl Philip, Duke of Värmland, on June 13, 2015, joining the Swedish royal family. The couple have four children who are in the line of succession to the Swedish throne.

In December 2025, the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter published 2005 emails between Jeffrey Epstein and Swedish businesswoman Barbro Ehnbom, a friend of Sofia’s, according to Marie Claire. In one email, Ehnbom introduced Sofia to Epstein as “an aspiring actress who just arrived in New York.” Fox News and Marie Claire report that the Swedish Royal Court confirmed Sofia met Epstein “on a few occasions around 2005” in social settings such as a restaurant and a film premiere, before he was convicted of any crime. Both outlets report that Epstein replied offering an invitation to his Caribbean island — “Does she want to come for a couple of days? I’ll send a ticket” — and that, according to the Royal Court, Sofia did not accept.

The Royal Court issued a statement addressing the reports. As quoted by Fox News and Marie Claire, the court said claims that “the Princess received help from Epstein with acting lessons or with a visa” are incorrect, adding that “the Princess has never been dependent on him in any way, nor has she had any contact with him for the past 20 years.” Fox News reported that Sofia was absent from the December 10, 2025 Nobel Prize ceremony as the story emerged.

Reputable news outlets report that, around 2005 and before she joined the Swedish royal family, Sofia Hellqvist met Jeffrey Epstein on a few social occasions in New York after being introduced by a mutual contact, and that the Swedish Royal Court has confirmed those meetings while saying she declined an invitation to his island and had no further contact with him.
