Reid Hoffman

Reid Hoffman is an American internet entrepreneur, venture capitalist, and author best known as the co-founder and former executive chairman of the professional-networking company LinkedIn. He has been a partner at the venture-capital firm Greylock Partners and previously served on the boards of PayPal, Microsoft, and OpenAI.

Hoffman is named in the released Epstein documents through several documented interactions. The released records show he visited Jeffrey Epstein’s island in November 2014, exchanged emails dated 2015 and 2017, took part in multiple Skype calls in 2013 and 2014, and attended a dinner with Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, and Mark Zuckerberg. Hoffman has said his contact with Epstein stemmed from fundraising for the MIT Media Lab. In a 2019 statement to Axios, he said he agreed to participate only after MIT Media Lab director Joi Ito assured him Epstein had cleared the institute’s vetting, and that his last interaction was a 2015 dinner in Palo Alto attended by Epstein, Ito, Musk, Zuckerberg, and Thiel.

Hoffman has publicly expressed regret. In his 2019 statement to Axios, he said: “By agreeing to participate in any fundraising activity where Epstein was present, I helped to repair his reputation and perpetuate injustice. For this, I am deeply regretful.” Fortune reported in November 2025 that newly released emails — including a March 2017 message in which Epstein proposed creating a large donor-advised fund — drew renewed attention. Fortune also quoted an earlier 2023 statement Hoffman had given to The Wall Street Journal: “It gnaws at me that, by lending my association, I helped his reputation, and thus delayed justice for his survivors.”

According to ABC News and Fortune, the renewed scrutiny coincided with a Trump-ordered investigation into Democrats named in the files; Fortune reported that Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed on November 13, 2025, that she would launch a probe. ABC News reported that President Trump publicly named Hoffman, saying, “Hoffman, in my opinion, should be under investigation,” and that Hoffman responded, “I refuse to bend the knee to Donald Trump and his slanderous lies,” while calling for the full release of the Epstein files. ABC News quoted Hoffman as adding that he “was never a client of Epstein’s and never had any engagement with him other than fundraising for MIT,” and noted that no victim of Epstein’s sexual exploitation has made any public allegation of wrongdoing by Hoffman.
