A MoveOn.org petition calling for the immediate release of all Epstein-related files has circulated following enactment of the Epstein Transparency Act.¹ The petition demands Congress force disclosure of documents now that the legislation has become law.¹

The Epstein Transparency Act was signed into law in December 2024, establishing a framework for release of government records related to Jeffrey Epstein.² The law requires federal agencies to review and disclose documents concerning Epstein’s activities and associates, subject to specific exemptions for national security and ongoing investigations.²

The FBI began its review process in accordance with the law’s requirements.³ MoveOn.org hosts the campaign on its front page, where users can add support to the call for accelerated disclosure.¹

Congressional Pressure for Release

Rep. Nancy Mace has been among lawmakers pressing agencies for disclosure, specifically demanding CIA release of Epstein-related documents in recent weeks.⁴ The South Carolina Republican has argued the public deserves access to information about Epstein’s connections and activities.⁴

Congress has conducted hearings with individuals connected to Epstein’s financial operations.⁵ Billionaire Leslie Wexner, Epstein’s former client and employer, testified before Congress claiming he was deceived by Epstein about the financier’s activities.⁵

The petition represents grassroots pressure on lawmakers to use oversight authority to expedite the disclosure process mandated by the law.¹

Document Release Status

Federal agencies possess numerous records related to Epstein, who died in federal custody in August 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. His longtime associate Ghislaine Maxwell was convicted in December 2021 on charges of recruiting and grooming underage girls for Epstein to abuse.

Court-ordered document releases have made public some materials from civil litigation, including depositions and witness statements.⁶ However, many government records held by federal agencies including the FBI, CIA, and Department of Justice remain classified or withheld from public view.

Federal agencies have not announced a specific date for comprehensive release of Epstein-related records. Congress can conduct hearings, issue subpoenas, and apply pressure on agencies to comply with disclosure requirements established in the Transparency Act.
