Police Widen Prince Andrew Investigation After Epstein Files Arrest

U.K. police have expanded their investigation into former Prince Andrew following his arrest in connection with the Epstein case, CBS News reported Saturday.¹

The investigation is “widening,” according to CBS News correspondent Elizabeth Palmer, who reported the arrest was “still making waves in the U.K. on Saturday.”¹

CBS News did not specify which law enforcement agency is conducting the investigation, what additional investigative steps are being taken, or what charges Andrew may face.¹

Andrew’s Arrest

Andrew was arrested earlier this week in London over his handling of Epstein-related documents.² The arrest led to the British government considering legislation to remove Andrew from the line of royal succession.³

Scotland Yard had previously expanded its probe to question Andrew’s protection officers about his links to Epstein.⁴

Royal Family Response

King Charles has publicly distanced himself from his brother over the Epstein connections.⁵ Andrew no longer performs official royal duties and ceased using the style “His Royal Highness” in official capacities after settling a 2022 civil lawsuit filed by Virginia Giuffre, who alleged she was trafficked to Andrew when she was 17.⁶ Andrew denied the allegations and the settlement included no admission of liability.⁶

Andrew remains eighth in line to the British throne despite having no role in official royal functions.⁶

Jeffrey Epstein died in federal custody in August 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.⁶ His associate Ghislaine Maxwell is serving a 20-year federal prison sentence for sex trafficking minors.⁶
