Michael Wolff

Michael Wolff is an American journalist and author, best known for Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House (2018) and subsequent books about Donald Trump. According to ABC News, Wolff has said he recorded approximately 100 hours of conversations with Jeffrey Epstein, telling the outlet, “I probably have 100 hours of Epstein talking about the inner workings of the Trump White House.” Wolff has characterized Epstein as “an enormously valuable source” and said he had been “pushing Epstein at that point to go public with what he knew about Trump,” which Wolff believed “would be disqualifying” for Trump (ABC News).

On November 13, 2025, House Oversight Committee Democrats released emails exchanged between Wolff and Epstein. According to CBS News, the released material included a December 15, 2015 exchange in which Wolff warned Epstein about a potential CNN question regarding Trump’s relationship with Epstein, and a January 31, 2019 email from Epstein to Wolff referencing Trump and Mar-a-Lago. In an Instagram post, Wolff said of the correspondence that “perhaps we’re getting close to the smoking gun” between Epstein and Trump (CBS News). The White House dismissed Wolff as someone who “routinely fabricates stories” (CBS News).

Writing for The Daily Beast, Wolff defended his contact with Epstein as part of his journalistic method, saying, “I am a writer who manages to make relationships that let me tell a story in the ways that The New York Times or other very reputable journalistic organizations are unable to tell.” He described his emails as embarrassing in hindsight but said, “I have no regrets at all. I would do it exactly the same,” and referenced having “more than 90 hours of tapes” of Epstein, including recordings made at Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse (The Daily Beast).
